The Mercedes G-Class is known for its luxury look. But under that stylish design, it still has a strong ladder-frame chassis. This means it can still go off-road. With just a few upgrades, it can take you through rough trails and steep hills—no problem.
Rare Off-Road G-Wagens: This One Stands Out
Only a few of the new second-gen G-Wagens get a full off-road upgrade. The one shown here is one of them. This diesel-powered Mercedes G-Class is ready for adventure.
It has a strong winch at the front, which helps pull it out if it gets stuck. On top, there’s a roof rack for more gear. Above the windshield, four trail lights help light the way at night. In the back, a ladder gives easy access to the roof.
Extra Details for Rugged Style
This G-Wagen also has mud flaps to protect it from dirt and rocks. It rides on black aftermarket wheels made by HRE, called the Vintage 515 GTM. They have a clean satin black finish.
The Vintage 515 GTM wheels are one-piece (monoblock) and come in sizes from 17 to 22 inches. Prices start at $10,400 for the smallest set. Buyers can choose colors, such as black or chrome lug nuts and center caps with the HRE logo.
These Wheels Fit More Than Just the G-Wagen
The Vintage 515 GTM wheels aren’t only for the Mercedes G-Class. You’ll also see them on cars like the Fiat 500 and the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. The Sterrato is a special off-road version of the Huracan. You might even spot these wheels on some Ferraris. More info is available on HRE’s website.
A Closer Look at This Custom G-Class
The G-Wagen in the photo is painted light blue and has glossy black trim to make it stand out. It also includes some other small upgrades that make it special compared to regular models. And yes, it runs on diesel.
What’s Under the Hood?
This is a G 400 d model, made before the recent facelift. It has a 3.0L diesel engine with two turbos, which makes 326 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 62 (100 km/h) in 6.4 seconds. It’s quick, but the newer version is even faster.
Meet the New G 450 d
The new G 450 d has more power: 362 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It uses an upgraded inline-six diesel engine with a turbocharger. It also has a 48-volt system and an electric starter generator, which adds 20 more horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque during short bursts.
