Celebrating its 45th anniversary, Brabus unveiled its first supercar, 'the Brabus 900 Crawler', that featured an in-house developed chassis, four seats, and an exposed-carbon buggy-style body.
The body of the new Brabus 900 Crawler is constructed of extremely strong exposed carbon; the company's ultimate goal was to create the ultimate racer vehicle suitable for the desert dunes, and because it is a fun car designed for off-road driving, the latest version is not street legal.
The latest version includes a special tubular frame created with CAD technology to provide excellent rigidity even during tough off-road driving. The chassis is constructed of extremely strong steel and completed in bright Brabus Red, and the suspension mounted on the frame is built for optimal strength to support the portal axles on the front and back.
The new layout needed that the engine, transmission, differentials, and half-shafts be built higher. This demanded the use of extremely strong aluminum components such as engineering specific wheel ends with integral portal gearbox, all control arms, integral subframes of the independent transmission on front and back, and the axle housing of the beam axle at the back.
The complex layout also allowed the Brabus chassis designers to achieve an optimal ground clearance of 53 centimeters, which is useful when driving over rough terrain.
The new model's exterior features custom Brabus aluminium struts, four-way adjustable shock absorbers, huge tires with off-road tread design, Brabus Monoblock HD 'Platinum Edition' forged tires, a the same spare wheel at the back of the vehicle, extra-wide wheel arches, a carbon fibre roof panel, a tubular structure with no doors or windows, and a secure steel cell built like a roll cage.
The updated model also includes a Brabus rear wing, integrated air vents and ducts for back seat passengers, two LED panels on the roof skin in addition to the primary air intakes, stainless skid plates, radiators developed to work in hot deserts, wide carbon rocker panels that serve as entrance aids, and a unique hood with two air intakes in the front of the vehicle.
The tires are 40×13.50 R20, while the front and back axles have forged wheels measuring 9.5Jx20. In addition, the wheels include an eight-hole bolt structure that matches the Brabus portal axles.
The new Crawler is equipped with eight cylinders, two turbochargers, and a 4.5-liter Brabus 900 Rocket V8 twin turbo raised shifting engine. The engine produces an optimal power output of 900 horsepower at a low 6200 rpm and 1250 Nm of torque at 2900 rpm. accelerating from 0-100 km/h takes 3.4 s, and the maximum speed is electronically set at 160 km/h.
The vehicle's interior includes carbon racing seating completed in bright red Silvertex fabric with four-point safety belts, an intercom system that can be used with the four delivered Brabus carbon helmets or any headset, and red anodized components such as the pedals, driver footrests, and shifts to match the seats upholstery, structure, and chassis.
The newly introduced Brabus 900 Crawler will be limited to 15 units, with five provided this year, five more in 2023, and the remainder in 2024.
